Ramadan & Eid Sweets in Mumbai
Every Ramadan, Mumbai’s Mohammed Ali Road turns into the busiest food street in the country, and the sweets are half the reason people come. Sufy’s Kanafeh Point sits a few minutes away in Umerkhadi, Chinchbunder — making kanafeh, baklava and Middle Eastern desserts from kataifi dough we produce ourselves, for iftar tables and Eid boxes across Mumbai.
What to order for iftar
After a long fast, people want something warm, sweet and not heavy-handed. These work best:
- Cheese Kanafeh — the traditional choice. Crisp kataifi, soft cheese, syrup. Serve it warm and it disappears.
- Nabulsi Cheese Kanafeh — made with the traditional cheese, for people who know the difference.
- Kanafeh Bites — the practical answer for a table of people. No cutting, no serving spoon, everyone takes one.
- Egyptian Umm Ali — warm milk pudding with pastry, nuts and raisins. A gentler way to open the fast than something syrup-heavy.
- Turkish Churros (Tulumba) — small, fried, syrup-soaked, easy to share.
If the table is large and mixed, a 4-in-1 Kanafeh Box settles the argument — four small kanafeh, four flavours, one box.
What to order for Eid
Eid is a gifting occasion more than an eating one, and that changes the answer. Baklava is the better Eid sweet for one practical reason: it holds its texture for well over a week at room temperature and needs no refrigeration. It survives being carried across the city, left on a counter and offered to whoever walks in.
- Assorted gifting boxes — mixed Turkish baklava, ready to hand over.
- Classic Turkish Baklava and Havuc Dilimi — the pistachio-heavy classics.
- Kanafeh chocolate bars — the pistachio-and-kataifi bars travel well and go down especially well with younger guests.
Sending sweets to family in another city? Send baklava, not kanafeh. Kanafeh is a today dessert; baklava is built to travel.
Order ahead — this is the one thing that matters
Ramadan is our busiest stretch of the year, and everything we make is produced in batches against orders rather than held in stock. The last ten days before Eid are the tightest.
Book early. For a normal iftar order, a day or two ahead is usually fine. For Eid boxes, large trays or anything running into double figures, give us as much notice as you can — a week is comfortable, the day before is not. Call +91 89289 05912.
Feeding a crowd
Community iftars, mosque distributions, office iftars and large family gatherings all need quantity planning rather than flavour planning. Tell us the headcount and whether it is a plated dessert or a passed-around one, and we will tell you what format works and how much to order. Bite-sized formats almost always beat trays when people are standing.
For office and client-facing orders, see corporate dessert gifting in Mumbai. For home parties and events, see kanafeh for parties and events.
Serving it properly
Two rules, and they are opposites:
Kanafeh must be warm. Reheat it briefly in an oven or air fryer just before iftar so the cheese softens and the kataifi crisps back up. Cold kanafeh is a waste of good kanafeh. Do not reheat it hours in advance.
Baklava must not be warm. It is at its best at room temperature, and it does not want the fridge either. Keep the box sealed and it stays crisp for days.
Delivery across Mumbai
We deliver across Mumbai, Thane and Navi Mumbai. During Ramadan, delivery slots fill early in the day and traffic around Mohammed Ali Road tightens considerably as iftar approaches — so book a slot with room in it rather than one that cuts fine. You can also collect from our Umerkhadi counter.
Frequently asked questions
How far in advance should I order for Eid?
As early as you can. A week’s notice is comfortable for gift boxes and large orders. The final days before Eid are our busiest and slots close quickly.
Which is better for iftar, kanafeh or baklava?
Kanafeh, served warm — it is the traditional iftar sweet and it eats better after a fast. Baklava is the better choice for Eid gifting because it keeps for over a week without refrigeration.
Do you take bulk orders for community iftars?
Yes. Tell us the headcount and the format you need and we will advise on quantity and packing. Give as much notice as possible during Ramadan. Call +91 89289 05912.
Can I send Eid sweets to another city?
Baklava travels well and does not need refrigeration, so it is the right choice for sending. Kanafeh is best eaten the day it is made and is not suited to long transit.
Do you deliver near Mohammed Ali Road during Ramadan?
Yes, and we are based a few minutes away in Umerkhadi. Traffic in the area is heavy close to iftar, so book an earlier slot rather than a tight one.
